Specializing in counseling for International English-speakers

For the past decade, I have provided solution focused brief therapy and coaching for families, students and professionals.

Moving to a new country can be one of the most challenging experiences for adults and the children in their care. I specialize in working with individuals who are trying to find their footing in a new culture and setting.

“If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.” Thích Nhất Hạnh

My approach utilizes the principles of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, an effective methodology that I have applied to mental health assistance in North America and Europe since 2002.

Testimonials

—”Lance is a grounded and peaceful professional.  While my family was struggling with transition and our children were becoming global students, Lance provided a safe calm audience to help us navigate the challenges we were facing.  My daughter was diagnosed with ADD and Lance provided us with all sound advice and practical exercises to help my whole family navigate this journey. Lance was also able to provide our teenage son with a person he could talk with and provide a reassuring voice to allow him to explore and grow with all the changes he was experiencing.”

“Lance is an extremely genuine, calm and caring counsellor. He helped both my teenagers as well as myself over several years while we were living internationally and dealing with anxiety, and issues around identity. He was caring, insightful and helped us all to move through the emotions and work through what was really going on to cause these feelings. Lance also gave us valuable tools to help with self confidence and to successfully navigate difficult situations and we all felt much more able to deal confidently with the challenges that we were facing.”

“Lance Fortner is an inspiring practitioner who is revolutionising not only interventions in schools but whole school cultures and responses to children and their parents.”

Luke Goldie McSorley, UKASFP and ECC Solution Focused Centre

For many years, Lance helped my girls settle in the new environment after a very difficult move to a new city and provided important guidance for me to support them during this transition and over the years to come. Lance listened carefully and with great empathy to understand the complexity of our family situation before providing professional advice. We all felt understood and appreciated Lance’s steady support over many years. Lance went far beyond finding fast or simple solutions. Lance helped us to find the best solutions with truly life changing impact. I am confident that without Lance, the girls would not be the strong, independent, active, successful, and happy individuals they are today. Knowing that the kids had a person they could trust was also a great relief for me. I will be forever grateful for Lance’s commitment and professionalism. His support made a huge difference in my life.
